Viva Technology — Bringing the future to life

Viva Technology is Europe’s leading tech fair: every year, the event brings together the key players in innovation and digital technology at the Parc des Expositions in Paris. In 2022, Viva Technology made a comeback with an ambitious new hybrid format.

To add a creative twist to the debates and presentations open to the general public, the organisers approached Cartoonbase to create a graphic facilitation experience.

For a whole day, conferences and round tables brought together influencers, entrepreneurs and other speakers to discuss the major issues facing tomorrow’s society: how do we imagine the school of the future? What will we eat tomorrow? How will we work?

Graphic facilitation enabled us to use drawings to help make the debates accessible and stimulating, even for the uninitiated – and to engage each participant thanks to this visual perspective.

Creating added value through drawing at an event like Viva Technology requires solid preparation of the technical subjects at the heart of the debates, but also quick wit!

To be able to capture discussions spontaneously in their visual backdrops, our illustrators did some in-depth work on the complex themes highlighted at the conference.

They also prepared a number of canvasses, which were filled with illustrations drawn from the discussions as they progressed. Their ideas provided additional food for thought – and occasionally a touch of fun.

VivaTech brought together participants from no fewer than 30 different countries. Our live drawing helped make the event even more memorable by creating a red thread for many of the key debates.

Created in digital format, our drawings were also designed with a hybrid audience in mind: beyond the conference room, these digital frescoes were shared in the Viva Technology newsletter and on social networks, reaching a wider and more varied audience.
